Dans mon quartier: A visit at la Laiterie Saint-Clothilde

Following the comment of a friend back home, I’ve decided to take you on a discovery tour of my Paris neighborhood. I’ll entitle this series of posts: “dans mon quartier”, where I’ll focus on sharing my favourite neighbourhood go-to’s – be it restaurant, café, store etc.

While Paris overflows with new restaurants – all of which are sought-after by an avid crowd looking for the next best thing – one must also have his share of relaxed neighbourhood places. These are crucial to the Parisian existence, especially during fall when a cozy atmosphere and a good comptoir call for a delicious, yet unpretentious, week-night meal. Thankfully, I have a few of those places around – the first I will talk about is la Laiterie Saint Clothide.

La Laiterie Saint Clothilde, Paris

La Laiterie is situated amongst apartment buildings on a quiet part of rue de Bellechasse. It gets quite busy at times – making the restaurant feel like some sort of neighbourhood hideout – without the exhausting buzz factor of other hip(er) places in town.

The carte is short, and dishes are openly complimented by satisfied customers. While the wine list is not “cheap” by French standards (a very light Chinon 2011, the cheapest bottle of red on the list that night, was 28 euros), the price of wine by the glass is just like any other bistro – hence making the weeknight dinner accompanied by a vin au verre idea all the better.

I loved sitting at the bar, and the dishes that my date and I enjoyed were comforting and inspired comments such as “oh, I wonder what’s in this butter – mmm – let me try it again”. We had l’onglet grillé and braised pork, as seen below.
